When I was 10 years old, my mom was diagnosed with brain cancer. This diagnosis threw my entire world off; everything changed the moment my parents told my brother and I. But there was one constant amongst all the change: our community. While I was only 10 years old and could not fully understand why all these people were helping my family, I did know that all this help came of an extremely caring and tight knit support system. As I got older, I realized just how helpful and impactful these people were on my family and my life. To give an example of this support system, some of these people set up a sign up sheet on bringThemAMeal.com to help my dad feed us. Also many offered to drive my brother and I to school and other places because he was almost always busy with my mom’s treatment and work so that would have little time. I can’t stress how much I appreciate this now, and I think that all this truly shows the good in people and the willingness to help other in a time of need.
